I grew up on a farm and my parents raised cattle and personally raised a few beef calves from time to time.
Mark & I lived in Texas for ten & half years and raised Texas Longhorn cattle for a time. Mark as a child stayed from time to time and helped on a dairy farm in Indiana.
In 1986 we started raising goats and after 22 years we decided it was time in our lives to get back to a more "user friendly" animal for our retirement years.
We had studied miniature cattle breeds back in 1986 and even back then had concluded that the miniature Hereford cattle was a great choice of the miniatures to raise.
We felt out of all the miniatures we liked the hardiness and structure of two miniature breeds the Herefords and Lowlines.
As we wanted a miniature that wasn't a dwarf but just a miniature of their breed while maintaining all the qualities of the breed its self.
We finally made the decision to go with the Miniature Hereford cows and use a Lowline bull. Our results will be miniature baldies.
We are impressed with the look and excellent traits of the miniature Herefords and Lowlines.  Both is a very docile breed making them easy to handle. Most breeders will break their stock to lead making it even easier for handling.
They are hardy and will do great in the cold Indiana winters and also take the hot humid summers.
They are smaller therefore their hooves don't tear up your land so much. They do well on land that is a little rugged that would be harder for full size cattle to graze. Our property has some ravines and our minis are doing just fine!
They aren't picky eaters a real plus!
We sold all our goats in early 2008, quickly located miniature Hereford and Lowline breeders.
We are really enjoying being "Mini Moo" farmers, keep checking our web site as we will be updating it from time to time as our "Mini Moo" venture grows, we plan on enjoying this venture to the fullest. You may see some "mixed" breeds of miniature cattle on our site because we found them neat! At our age we've learned life is short, treasure each day and enjoy what you do. Smile
